Hi, it's Sho.
About this time last year, I was exploring nearby coffee shops I could work from. There's something about the vibe and ambience of a coffee shop that helps some of us get in the zone for productive work.
I had tried out a few already. A number of them rated 4+ stars with thousands of reviews each. But one that was never on my radar came up during a chat with my next door neighbor. As I remember she said: "They have the best coffee and the people are great. They even have our orders memorized." She was right in sixteen words.
That is the whole thesis of what we are building.
A rating averages strangers. A friend filters for you. The rest of this letter is about that difference.
Next time you are planning anything, skip the review tab for one hour and ask one person who has actually been there one specific question:
"What would you do again?"
Not "was it good." Not "any tips." What would you do again? It skips the polite summary and goes straight to the thing that earned a repeat. Ask three people that question about a city and you have a better plan than any top ten list, because every answer comes pre-filtered by someone who knows you.
We've built this to work natively on trips in the app when a connected friend has indicated they've been to the same destination. Even better, they don't have to be on the app to request recs from them.
One thing we shipped
We went through the product and removed every claim about recommendations that we could not stand behind yet. If a screen said picks were tailored to you before they truly were, it now says exactly what is happening instead. Smaller promise, kept.
That is the standard we are holding the trust features to. The product tells you where a suggestion came from, or it does not make one.
The ask
Every city in Breadkrumb wears a stock photo today. We want them to wear yours.
This coming week, we launch City Covers. A chance for our users to share a picture that expresses their experience of a city they've visited. We'll be starting with three cities: Cape Town, New York City and Mexico City.
The best ones (selected by a mix of popular vote and judges) become that city's cover inside Breadkrumb, credited to you by name, seen by everyone who plans that city. Watch out on our socials @breadkrumb.official for the kickoff.
One photo. One city. Show us the heart of it.
Sho
P.S. New here because someone forwarded this? Breadkrumb is where you and your people plan trips together and keep what you find, without posting any of it to the world.
